Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, at the age of 88. The Archdiocese of Denver invites all the faithful to join the global Church in mourning the passing of the Holy Father, whose funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, at 2 a.m. Mountain Time. The liturgy will be broadcast live from St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, allowing Catholics across Colorado to participate in this historic moment of prayer and remembrance.

Special Mass in Denver to Coincide with Funeral

To mark the occasion locally, a special Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver. All are welcome to attend and pray for the repose of the Holy Father's soul in union with the universal Church, or tune in from home via livestream.

A Global Gathering of Prayer

The funeral Mass, presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will gather bishops, cardinals and clergy from around the world.

The Mass will be live-streamed on the Vatican’s YouTube Channel and covered by major news outlets, including ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, The New York Times and the BBC. Catholic network EWTN will begin its live coverage at 1 a.m. MT.

Listeners can also tune in via The Catholic Channel on SiriusXM (Channel 129) and Relevant Radio, both of which will broadcast the Mass live at 2 a.m. MT, with rebroadcasts later in the day.

A Time of Reflection and Unity

Following the funeral, Pope Francis will be laid to rest in the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, in accordance with his wishes. The Mass marks the beginning of the novemdiales, a traditional nine-day period of mourning and prayer following a pope's death. The faithful are invited to join in praying the Novena in Memory of Pope Francis starting Saturday, April 26.

As the Church reflects on the legacy of a pope known for his humility, compassion and call to mercy, the faithful in Colorado are invited to join in prayerful solidarity with Catholics around the world.
