In communion with the universal Church, the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver are invited to gather for a special Mass to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, who entered eternal life on Monday.
The Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Downtown Denver. Father Sam Morehead, rector of the Cathedral Basilica, will be the principal celebrant.
As the world mourns the passing of the 266th Successor of St. Peter, this Mass will offer the local faithful an opportunity to unite in prayer with Catholics across the globe.
The Mass at the Cathedral Basilica will be a solemn occasion of prayer and remembrance. In the sacred liturgy, the faithful will commend Pope Francis' soul to the loving embrace of God the Father and intercede for the Church he so faithfully served. Together, the Church in Northern Colorado will lift Pope Francis' soul to God's mercy and give thanks for his life, witness and faithful service to Christ and his Church.
All are welcome to attend the Mass. Priests of the Archdiocese have been invited to concelebrate, and members of the faithful from every parish are encouraged to be present for this moment of unity and prayer.
As the Church prepares to lay Pope Francis to rest, let us pray with confidence and trust in Christ's promise: “Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live” (John 11:25).
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
