Spanish-language conference draws 1,500, focuses on the family

The Spanish-language Living the Catholic Faith Conference (“Viviendo la Fe Católica”) drew some 1,500 attendees to the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver March 15. The day-long event was themed “The Family and the New Evangelization” (“La Familia y la Nueva Evangelizacion”).
“Four keynote addresses were delivered covering the four chapters of the apostolic exhortation by Pope John Paul II, ‘Familiaris Consortio’ (‘On the role of the Christian Family in the Modern World’),” said Luis Soto, director of Hispanic Ministry. “The topics were: the family as a community of persons, which highlighted the relationship of parents and their children; the family as defenders of life and cooperators with God in life; challenges facing families in modern society; and the family as the domestic Church.”
Speakers included famed Catholic vocalist, composer and author Martín Valverde and his wife Elizabeth; Father Rafael Capo, director of the Southeast Pastoral Institute in Miami; and spouses Ricardo and Lucia Luzondo who serve as consultants for the Spanish-language For Your Marriage initiative of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
