An installation Mass marks the formal beginning of a bishop’s ministry in a diocese. During the liturgy, the apostolic mandate, the official letter from the Holy Father appointing the new archbishop, is presented and read before the gathered Church.
A central moment of the celebration follows when Archbishop-designate Golka is led to the cathedra, the bishop’s chair, a sign of his teaching authority and pastoral leadership of the archdiocese. From this seat, the source of the word cathedral, the archbishop presides as chief shepherd, guiding the faithful entrusted to his care.
These celebrations are not only ceremonial but deeply spiritual moments for the local Church. They mark the continuation of apostolic leadership and invite the faithful to unite in prayer for the archbishop as he begins his ministry.
Bishops from across the country, as well as priests, deacons, religious and lay faithful, are expected to gather for the celebration, reflecting the unity of the Church and the importance of the moment for the Archdiocese of Denver.
In addition to the Installation Mass, other liturgical celebrations will mark the beginning of Archbishop-designate Golka’s ministry, including Solemn Vespers and the archbishop’s taking possession of the Cathedral, when he formally takes his seat at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver.
All are invited to participate in these joyful celebrations in the life of the Church.
Please continue to pray for Archbishop-designate Golka and for the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver as the Church prepares for this historic moment.
