For over two years, Scott Hudson and his 23-year-old daughter, Lindsay Hudson, have been faithfully volunteering with The Rosary Team, leading the rosary with residents at Anthem Memory Care in Westminster. What began as a personal desire to serve has grown into a deeply meaningful ministry, one that not only blesses the elderly they visit but also continues to deepen their faith and relationship.
“For me, volunteering with The Rosary Team has been a tremendous blessing,” Scott shared. “I remember visiting my great-grandmother, and later my grandmother, in nursing homes when I was a child. Even then, I could sense the loneliness that lingered among the residents. I always thought it was so sad that anyone should feel that alone near the end of life.”
Seeing the great need, Scott began volunteering to serve others who find themselves alone in nursing homes, like his great-grandmother and grandmother.
“I volunteer for The Rosary Team as a way to integrate my faith while serving those who may feel forgotten. The residents are always so happy to see us. They are longing both for company and for God. Seeing their smiles each week brings joy to my heart,” Scott added.
A few months into his ministry, Scott’s daughter Lindsay expressed interest in joining him. At the time, she wasn’t fully practicing her faith, but something about the gentle beauty of The Rosary Team’s mission drew her in. By helping the residents, Lindsay has found that the residents strengthen her faith through their commitment.
“Volunteering with my dad is a great way for us to pray together every week,” Lindsay shared. “My prayer life has become more consistent since joining. I think it’s important to spread his word, and this community is a beautiful way to do that. In bringing us closer to God through praying the Rosary, he’s also strengthening my relationship with my dad.”
Now, as a devoted father-daughter team, Scott and Lindsay look forward to their time in service together.
“We both have busy lives,” Scott noted, “so this has given us quality time together while deepening our faith.”
Their joint ministry of prayerful accompaniment has been filled with blessings, both for them and for the people they pray with. In one memorable case, they were able to pray a woman into eternal life.
“Lindsay and I had the privilege of praying with a woman who was near the end of her life,” Scott recalled. “She passed just two days later. It was a gift to be there with her in prayer right before she passed.”
Of course, alongside the beautiful moments have been difficult ones, as friends new and old pass away, a weighty reality for the father-daughter team.
“In the last couple of months, three of the residents we’ve grown close to have passed away,” Scott shared, highlighting the special prayers that he, Lindsay and other Rosary Team volunteers pray for those who have passed. In this way, nursing home residents served by The Rosary Team know that they will be prayed for and that they will not be forgotten.
As they continue to make weekly visits over time, Scott and Lindsay form meaningful connections with those they serve, and reminding them that the Christian community still cares for them.
“It’s been special getting to know the residents as we keep going. I’m grateful for the opportunity of practicing and strengthening our faith right alongside them,” Lindsay shared.
Growing rapidly, this grassroots apostolate has over 500 volunteers in 18 states and leads group Rosaries in nursing homes, offering companionship and faith to those who may feel forgotten. Yet with more than 50,000 nursing homes in the U.S. alone, the need for volunteers and support remains vast.
This Father's Day, the Hudsons show forth the value of faith, family and service, through the simple act of praying the Rosary and bringing Christ’s love to those isolated and forgotten.
