The Archdiocese of Denver joins the Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer and the faithful of Queen of Vietnamese Martyrs Parish in Wheat Ridge in mourning the passing of Father Hilary Maria Khanh Nguyen, CRM, a devoted priest and missionary who served with humility and joy in several dioceses across the United States, including here in the Archdiocese of Denver.

Born on July 15, 1951, in Phu Tho, Vietnam, Father Nguyen was the son of Truc Ba Nguyen and Nang Thi Tran. Called early to serve the Lord, he entered formation with the Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer, dedicating his life to spreading the Gospel and caring for souls wherever he was sent.

After immigrating to the United States, he pursued seminary and academic studies at Conception Seminary College in Missouri and later earned degrees from the University of Missouri and Southwest Missouri State University. He completed his theological formation at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, earning a Master of Divinity in 1993.

He was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1994, beginning a ministry that would span more than three decades and touch countless lives.

Father Nguyen first served as chaplain to the Vietnamese Catholic communities in Brookline, Haverhill and Lawrence, in the Archdiocese of Boston, Massachusetts (1995–1998). He then became pastor of Christ the King Parish in the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas (1998–2002). In December 2002, he was appointed pastor of Queen of Vietnamese Martyrs Parish in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where he ministered faithfully until 2008.

Throughout his priesthood, Father Nguyen's pastoral care and leadership nurtured vibrant Vietnamese Catholic communities across the country, especially in Colorado.

The Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer and the people of God give thanks for his priestly witness and his years of selfless service in the vineyard of the Lord.

May the soul of Father Hilary Maria Khanh Nguyen, CRM, rest in the peace of Christ, whom he served so faithfully.
