Editor's Note: Multiple wildfires continue to burn across Colorado, forcing evacuations, destroying homes and threatening communities in the Dioceses of Pueblo and Colorado Springs. Three wildland firefighters also lost their lives while responding to the fires, underscoring the tremendous sacrifice made by those protecting others. As Catholics across the state join Bishop Stephen Berg's nine-day novena for all those affected, Archbishop James R. Golka invites the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver to unite in prayer for the victims, first responders, evacuees and all who are suffering during this difficult time. Statement from Archbishop James R. Golka on the Colorado Wildfires

As wildfires continue to threaten communities across our state, I ask all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver to unite with me in prayer for everyone affected. In a special way, let us pray for the three firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty while protecting others. May the Lord, rich in mercy, receive them into his eternal kingdom and bring comfort and hope to their families, loved ones and fellow first responders.

We also entrust to the Lord all firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and volunteers who continue to place themselves in harm's way to protect lives and communities. May God strengthen and protect them in their service.

Please also keep in your prayers those who have lost their homes, those forced to evacuate and all who are living with uncertainty. Let us remember especially our neighbors in the Dioceses of Colorado Springs and Pueblo, where these fires are burning. I am grateful for Bishop Stephen Berg's invitation to pray a novena for all those affected. Together, let us ask the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that she may comfort those who mourn, protect those in danger, strengthen those who serve and obtain for us the blessing of much-needed rain.

In every trial, Christ remains our sure hope. May we bear one another's burdens through fervent prayer, growing ever deeper in faith, hope and charity, always trusting that the Lord never abandons his people.
