It is with deep sorrow, yet with steadfast Christian hope in the Resurrection, that the Archdiocese shares the news of the passing of Deacon Edward (Ed) Armijo, who has gone to his rest in the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Deacon Ed was 87 years of age. In recent months, he experienced a serious decline in health and entered hospice care. Surrounded by prayer and compassionate support, he completed his earthly pilgrimage and now commends his life to the Lord he served with fidelity and humility.
Deacon Armijo was ordained later in life to the Sacred Order of Deacons on May 20, 2009, by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput. He faithfully ministered at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Loveland until his retirement in 2013. His parish ministry was marked by a quiet generosity and a steadfast presence, serving the Hispanic community, assisting in many parish apostolates and offering pastoral care wherever it was needed. Whether at the altar, in the proclamation of the Word or through simple acts of accompaniment, Deacon Armijo lived his vocation as a servant of Christ and his Church.
Beyond his diaconal service, Deacon Armijo led a life of dedication and responsibility. He was a retired air traffic controller, a profession that demanded precision, calm and an unwavering commitment to the safety of others. He was also a veteran, having honorably served his country, an expression of the same sense of duty and self-giving that illustrated his ministry in the Church.
Above all, Deacon Armijo was a devoted husband and family man. He shared 66 years of marriage with his beloved bride, Doris, and was the loving father of Jerry, Dennis and Judy. His love for his family was the wellspring from which his ministry flowed, bearing witness to the vocation first lived at home.
The Archdiocese asks the faithful to keep Doris and the entire Armijo family in fervent prayer during this time of mourning. May they be consoled by the hope that flows from the Cross and the promise of the Resurrection, trusting in the Lord who is “the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25).
A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m., at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
May Deacon Edward Armijo rest in the peace of Christ. Requiescat in pace.
