Infographic: Understanding the Hierarchy

Writer: Denver Catholic StaffDenver Catholic Staff

Updated: Feb 1

In honor of the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter on Feb. 22, we made the following infographic explaining the Roman Catholic hierarchy. Ever wondered how the Archbishop has the power to restore the sacraments? Want to know why the deacon does the readings at Mass instead of the priest? It’s all here!

Note: We took out our explanation of cardinals and the pope because it gave the impression that they are further degrees of Holy Orders. Please let us know if you would like us to explain these in future infographics!
