Catholic Charities to distribute 3,000 turkeys to the needy

The annual Turkey Drive held by Catholic Charities is getting a helping hand from the Church of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
On Nov. 18, 2,900 turkeys donated by the Mormon church showed up at the doorstep of Samaritan House shelter in Denver. The turkeys were unloaded from a truck and placed in coolers before being distributed to hundreds of homeless and needy around Denver during the holiday season.
“This is a blessing for Catholic Charities shelters and its work to provide a warm meal to hundreds of families and children facing homelessness this holiday season,” Geoff Bennett, vice president of shelter services for Catholic Charities of Denver, said in a press release. “We’re grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their generous donation during this great time of need.”
Catholic Charities is hoping to receive 4,000 turkeys this year to distribute. They are accepting turkey donations through Dec. 1.
